# Persistent VMs

> Create a CPU virtual machine that keeps its disk between sessions, and connect to it over SSH.

## Create a VM

```bash
klio vm new my-box
klio vm ssh my-box
```

`klio vm new` creates a CPU virtual machine with a durable root disk, so installed packages and files are still there next time. `klio vm ssh` opens a shell on it. Run `klio vm new --help` for its size, image, port and network options.

## Stop and list

```bash
klio vm list
klio vm stop my-box
```

`klio vm stop` saves the root disk and shuts the VM down; `klio vm start` brings it back. `klio vm list` shows each VM, its disk size and its uptime.
